Are spare parts available for my dolly?
Yes. We offer a complete line of parts to replace fasteners, as well as plastic and aluminum components.
Can a dolly be towed behind a vehicle?
Yes...and no. We do offer trailer hitch couplers which can be attached to our dollies for towing purposes at speeds less than 10 mph and distances less than 100 yards. Our couplers are intended for used behind golf carts, ATVs, and similar vehicles in boat yards, beaches, and other private property. The couplers are available with a 1 7/8" or 2" receiver. It is important to note that our dollies should never be towed on a public road and are not designed for this purpose.
Can one person move a boat on a dolly?
That depends on the individual's strength, the surface on which the dolly is being used, as well as the angle of the surface. Many younger sailors have no trouble moving an Optimist and dolly on a grass or asphalt surface at a club dinghy area.
Moving a 14' rigid inflatable boat with a motor and fuel over sand dunes will be a more difficult task for even the most athletic user. We strive to keep our "handle weight" at 10-15 pounds as well as having the boat's center of gravity correctly balanced. This "balanced" feel is one of our most important features, and is the result of years of experience designing specific dollies for specific boats.
Does a dolly break down for travel or storage?
Most dollies break down into smaller components, without tools, for easier transportation. The size of the subcomponents depends on the size of the particular dolly in question.
Do you offer dollies for PWCs?
We do not currently offer dollies for personal water crafts (Wave Runners, Jet Skis, etc).
Are custom dollies available?
Yes. We offer a simple online form to request a quotation on your custom job.
Is it OK to use these dollies in salt water?
Yes, all Seitech dollies are designed to be used in both salt and fresh water. However, we do recommend rinsing the dolly, and especially the wheels and bearings, with fresh water after use in a salt water environment.
Is there a warranty on Seitech products?
Yes, there is a one year warranty on all Seitech products against defects in workmanship and material when properly used, cared for, and maintained. Seitech will replace, free of charge, any part which proves under examination to be defective under normal use.
What size boats are appropriate for a Seitech dolly?
While there are a number of variables that we consider when designing dolly, the most important is gross or "wet" weight. This is the weight of the boat plus rigging, fuel and motor, and the family dog. Generally we build dollies for boats where the gross weight is under 500 pounds.
What tools do I need to assemble my new dolly?
The only tools needed are a #3 Phillips screwdriver, and a rubber mallet, or a soft blow mallet.
What's the difference between "IP" and "PC" parts ?
"IP" parts are made of Isoplast, which is a heavier duty polymer for use with dollies for heavier boats (like double handed sailboats and boats with outboard motors.) "PC" parts are molded out of glass reinforced Polycarbonate and are used on small boat dollies for boats such as the Sunfish and Laser, as well as the most common joint on our rack systems. Both components are 100% UV protected.
